The Game UN:Me: An Cerebral Horror That Blends Silent Hill and Social Deduction Gameplay

The recent Day of the Devs online presentation revealed a number of intriguing future games, but one in particular has seized attention: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo adventure appears to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"This is a distinctive game where a girl containing multiple human souls inside her needs to flee from a maze of the psyche," explains producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Mind

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed female protagonist seeming to be of high school age. Within her exist four distinct personas, each with their own anxieties and drives. These souls can take over at will, unleashing their deep-seated phobias upon her without warning.

Based on revealed footage, much of the action unfolds within a eerie hospital, while additional clips show the main character navigating a abandoned church.

An Environment of Personal Horror

"What makes you fearful of? What makes you uneasy?" poses creative lead Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Small rooms. Authority figures. Elements that seem trivial to other people can trigger something primal within us. This game delves into that idea — fears that are specific to each person."

The central mechanic involves controlling the persona that emerges at a particular time. However, these identities will switch involuntarily as you play. During exploration, each soul's anxieties become amplified and assault the girl one after another. When the soul changes, so does the specific fear the player experiences.

Eerie Visuals and a Deadly Decision

At first glance, UN:Me shares striking aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill series. The hospital is populated by orderlies all sporting the same face, with disturbingly broad smiles. Patients in the waiting room have large flowers growing from their necks should be. Floral motifs are a recurring theme, juxtaposing natural beauty with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me presents a singular twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls haunting the protagonist is the "true" one. "All four personas claims that the physical form belongs to them," explains a developer. "During the game, you need to figure out who is real."

Once players believes a soul is fake, they must eliminate it. However, because every entity can lie or hide the truth, it is very easy to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already destroyed the real [soul] by your own actions," the narration states. "The last one remaining might be a fake. In any case, your decisions are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed release date, but it is available to follow on platforms.
