The former Liverpool manager admits a return to coach Liverpool is theoretically possible.
Jurgen Klopp, who left Liverpool in 2024, indicated that rejoining the club is something that could happen. The 58-year-old, after a transformative nine-year spell which brought continental glory and ending the club's long wait since 1990, currently occupies roles overseeing worldwide football with the Red Bull group and in an advisory capacity to Germany's league body.
Fan Sentiment and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
Liverpool won the Premier League last season, but many fans who revere Klopp would embrace the notion that he may eventually return. Speaking candidly, he explained to Steven Bartlett: “I stated I won't manage another team in England. So that means in case it's my former club...yes. In theory, it could happen.”
“Being 58, that means I could make the decision down the line, I don’t know. Must I choose now? Then I will not coach again. Luckily, I don’t have to do that. I can just see what lies ahead.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Pressed on the specific conditions would have to unfold to tempt his return to management, he revealed he was not instantly drawn for a comeback. “I'm not entirely sure, I love what I do right now,” he stated. “I don’t miss coaching; No desire to be in the rain through long matches; I don’t miss going to interviews four times, three times a week or constant media duties weekly.
“The locker room isn't missed in that context, yet sharing a meal with the team talking freely, is pleasant. Success was frequent meaning regularly a very good mood at the club. Remaining with me is Van Dijk's laughter vividly recalled to illustrate.”
Praise for His Successor
He commended of the current boss, crediting him for the adjustments which secured the championship in the previous season. They've been defeated four consecutive matches across various tournaments following significant transfers, though he denied the suggestion that it might signal a decline.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker like Florian Wirtz, critics will regret if spoken against. An outstanding player. [Hugo] Ekitike, incredible player. They have a strong balanced team. No need for concern regarding the Reds, they will be fine.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
He shared movingly about the death of Jota, whom he brought in during his tenure, and its impact at the club. The Portugal international lost his life in a road accident alongside his brother this past summer.
“How do you replace such an individual? It’s not about his footballing ability, his personality mattered. I struggle to conceive the dressing room absent his presence. I find it difficult to discuss about it. A devastating blow for all the boys as well. Not a single person might employ it to justify results though it's a fact. You walk in a dressing room where his spirit remains. Handling this on a personal level is not easy. Impossible.”
