Slot Asserts He Feels Secure and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Defeat
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was understandable for doubts to be raised about his position following a further convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in 12 games, representing the club's poorest streak after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I have got a lot of support from the top,” Slot remarked.
“It's important to turn it around and get a victory obviously but when you're in a managerial role and struggling then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I am OK with my role. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to expand on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot said:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “During our regular exchanges I perceive the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game yet so let’s see.”
Familiar Problems and Squad Reaction
Slot highlighted familiar failings from his team in their Champions League loss, specifically poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones stated.
“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the words.”
He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the club I love. I support them, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team going through a spell like this with results so bad.”
He finished, “But we still have the crest on our shirts. And until it is removed, we’re always going to fight.”
“We will attempt to get this team return to the top, show everyone once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the top club in the world.”
“But right now, things are bad and it must improve.”
