Iran Claims Attack on US Base in Bahrain, Amid Regional Counterattacks.
Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched operations across the region in response for a "massive" and continuing attack against it by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area near the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any damage is not yet known and the US has yet to issue a statement.
Airspace Engagements
Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house American military installations - reported they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their territorial skies.
In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had intercepted a number of projectiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was targeting US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the attack on the Islamic Republic carried out by the US and Israel on Saturday.
That preceding assault - initiated at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on areas associated with the Iranian leadership, with President Trump calling on the Iranian people to rise up against the regime.
Regional Fallout
In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military stated it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates announced that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses dealt with the missiles with high efficiency and shot down a number of missiles," the statement continued.
The statement noted debris fell on a neighborhood in the capital, resulting in some structural damage and the death of one civilian.
The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
