Enzo Maresca has moved to minimize recent rumors connecting him to a move to Manchester City, declaring he anticipates to remain as Chelsea's head coach for the upcoming campaign.
Focus on Current Role
Regardless of previous comments that cast doubt on his rapport with the club's hierarchy, Maresca pointed to his deal running until 2029 and reiterated his focus is solely on his role at Chelsea. He described the rumors as "100% speculation."
“I am completely unaffected because I know that is 100% speculation,” stated Maresca. “My focus, as I've stated repeatedly, is solely on this club and I’m very proud to be here.”
Navigating the Rumors
The intrigue around the coach increased after he revealed experiencing his “most difficult two days” at Chelsea before a win over Everton, mentioning a feeling of insufficient backing. Some observers suggest these ambiguous statements could be related to ambitions of moving to Manchester City, where he once worked as Pep Guardiola's assistant.
When questioned about the origin of the news, Maresca replied, “I think it's key to know why this news was there, but it’s not my concern, I don’t care at all.”
Looking Ahead
Amid these rumors, Chelsea's travelling supporters were heard singing Maresca's name following a Carabao Cup win. When directly asked if he planned to be at the club for the next campaign, his response was unwavering.
“Without a doubt, yes,” Maresca stated. “I have a contract until 2029, and this is 100% speculation. My entire focus is on the Newcastle game and performing my duties.”
The coach pointed to the team's recent achievements under his tenure, such as reaching a third domestic cup semi-final in 18 months and securing Champions League qualification last season. “Now the target is to try to improve,” he added.
